Bible verses for when you feel down

On heavy days it can be hard to pray. Start with one of these verses. Read it slowly, as many times as you need.

Eight verses for heavy days

  • The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

    Psalm 34:18

  • Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.

    Psalm 42:11

  • God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    Psalm 46:1

  • …but those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

    Isaiah 40:31

  • He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

    Psalm 147:3

  • We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair; pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed;

    2 Corinthians 4:8-9

  • It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

    Lamentations 3:22-23

  • Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

    Psalm 23:4

A short prayer

Lord, my heart feels heavy today. You are near to the brokenhearted, so be near to me now. Give me strength for this day, and people to walk with me. Amen.
